St. Francis of Assisi and the Live Greccio Crib

It was St Francis of Assisi who popularised the Christmas crib when he brought Bethlehem to Greccio in 1223. People and animals featured in his crib, described in the writings of St Bonaventure. “The brethren were summoned, the people ran together, the forest resounded with their voices and the venerable night was made glorious by many and brilliant lights and sonorous psalms of praise. The man of God, stood before the manger, full of devotion and piety, bathed in tears and radiant with joy; the Holy Gospel was chanted by Francis”.

Holy Family

An Teaghlach Naofa (The Holy Family) is a prayer network for the protection of Ireland in these times. An Teaghlach Naofa is in honour of the Holy Family of Nazareth, Jesus, Mary and Joseph, and under the patronage of St. John Paul who loved the people of Ireland so much.

An Teaghlach Naofa prays for the protection of the sanctity of marriage, family and life, for our bishops and priests and for our nation. We seek to link people of faith across all four Provinces to come together and unite in prayer and fasting for specific prayer intentions for Ireland. Pope Francis said recently, “Let us not underestimate the power of so many voices united in prayer!”

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Holy Family of Nazareth, enfold our families and our nation in your loving care. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we love you, pray for us and our families and bring all of us to heaven.

May every family in Ireland walk as pilgrims with The Holy Family.”

The Holy Family, St Mel’s Cathedral, Longford

The beautiful painting of The Holy Family in St Mel’s Cathedral, Longford, Diocese of Ardagh and Clonamacnoise. The painting, was commissioned by Bishop Woodlock for the Holy Family Altar where marriages were solemnised in St. Mel’s for many decades.

“The Holy Family” was painted in Rome in 1891 (artist unknown) and is a copy of a work by the Spanish painter Murillo.

The painting miraculously survived the devastating fire
in St Mel’s in 2009, along with the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle. Everything else was destroyed. The painting has a special place in the heart of the parish of St Mel’s and in the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacoise.

If you are driving through the heart of Ireland, take time out and visit St. Mel’s Cathedral. The Holy Family Altar, with the miraculous painting, is up at the front, to the left. Say a prayer to the Holy Family for your own family and all families in Ireland.

St John Paul prayer
An Teaghlach Naofa is under the patronage of St John Paul, the first Pope to visit Ireland. In Phoenix Park, he told us, “Like St. Patrick, I too have heard the voice of the Irish calling to me and so I come to you, all of you in Ireland”.

The main themes of Pope John Paul’s apostolic visit were: protection of the sanctity of marriage and family life, the sacredness of human life and the renewal of family prayer at home. His homilies were prophetic for these times.

His wish, leaving our shores - “May every home in Ireland, remain, or begin again, to be a home for daily family prayer”.

Let us work to fulfil his wish in these times.

The Soul of Ireland
St John Paul prayer
“The very soul of Ireland, will be challenged by the temptations that spare no society”…Ireland must choose your choice must be clear and your decision firm. Let the voice of your forefathers, who suffered so much to maintain their faith in Christ and preserve Ireland’s soul, resound today in your ears, what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his own life? What would it profit Ireland to go the easy way of the world and suffer the loss of her own soul ?”

Novena to The Sacred Heart of Jesus for Ireland

Roses for Mary - Special Birthday Bouquet for Our Lady

54 Day Miraculous Rosary Novena for Ireland and the whole world

The novena is in honour of Our Lady Queen of the Most Holy Rosary to pray for the conversion and salvation of Ireland and the whole world.
The novena starts on Monday 16th July ’18, feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, to Friday 7th September, eve, of Our Lady’s Birthday.
We will be praying 15-20 decades of The Rosary daily, 27 days in petition and 27 days in thanksgiving.

Our Lady told St. Dominic, every rosary you pray is a crown of roses for me and for my son Jesus. Every Our Father is a red rose and every Hail Mary is a white rose.
A bouquet of red and white roses will be presented to Our Lady on her birthday in the shrine of Our Lady, Virgin of Pompei and Queen of The Rosary.
Names of all participating will be included on the bouquet ribbon.

“As the family goes, so goes the nation, and so goes the whole world in which we live”. Pope St. John Paul

Intentions:
• Renewal of the family rosary in our own home, in all Irish homes and all catholic homes across the world
• Conversion and salvation of all members of my family, our nation, and the whole world
• Every living person, born and unborn, may only die in God’s appointed time.

“You are all beautiful O Mary, you are the glory, you are the joy, you are the honour of our people”.

St. Padre Pio had special devotion to the Virgin of Pompei. Four days before he died, he received a bouquet of red roses. Selecting one of the roses, he gave it to a friend and asked him to take it and present it to Our Lady, Queen of The Rosary, in the basilica of Pompei. His friend delivered the rose the next day. On the day he died, the rose closed up into a bud. A year later the rose remained fresh. The rose is on display in the Basilica of Our Lady of Pompei beside papal gifts of a golden rose from Pope Benedict and white and gold rosary beads from Pope Francis.

The image of Our Lady of Pompei was originally brought to Pompei by Bl. Bartolo Longo who received an inspiration on 13 October 1879 to find a painting to start a Rosary confraternity in Pompei. The painting arrived on 13 November 1879 and then commenced the most incredible Rosary Apostolate, many miraculous healings and the building of the Basilica in honour of Our Lady. On 3rd March 1884, in Naples, Our Lady of Pompei, appeared to a young Italian girl. Fortunatina Agrelli, Our Lady came holding the Child Jesus and accompanied by St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena, with the gift of the 54 day miraculous Rosary Novena. Our Lady promised Fortunatina a miracle if she prayed fifteen decades of the Rosary daily for 54 days, 27 days in petition and 27 days in thanksgiving. Fortunatina and her family prayed the novena together and she was completely healed. Our Lady said to Fortunatina, “whoever desires to obtain favours from me should make three novenas of the prayers of The Rosary and three novenas in thanksgiving”. Our Lady also told Fortunatina that the title most pleasing to her is Our Lady Queen of The Rosary. In 1901, Pope Leo XIII made the shrine of Pompeii a Papal Basilica and a parish of the world. He also added the title Our Lady, Queen of The Rosary to the Litany of Our Lady.

In 21 October 1979, Pope St. John Paul, travelled to Pompei for the first time and thanked Our Lady, Queen of The Rosary for the success of his visits to Ireland and the USA. He entrusted all families of Europe and the whole world to Our Lady of Pompei. In 2002, when Pope St. John Paul gave the world the Luminous Mysteries of The Rosary, and beatified Apostle of the Rosary, Blessed Bartolo Longo, he requested the image of The Our Lady of Pompeii to come to St. Peter’s in Rome. The following year, in October 2003, he returned To Pompei to close the Year of the Rosary. Blessed Bartolo Longo also wrote a novena of petition and a novena of thanksgiving to Our Lady as well as a Supplica. The shrine of Pompei currently recommends praying the 4 mysteries of The Rosary daily, to include the Luminous Mysteries, along with Bl. Bartolo Longo’s prayers of petition and thanksgiving.

Novena to The Sacred Heart of Jesus for Ireland

Novena to The Sacred Heart of Jesus for Ireland

Wed 16th – Thu 24th May 2018
For protection of The Eighth Amendment of The Irish Constitution and all unborn children in Ireland.

To entrust our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the protection of human life and to ask our Divine Lord Jesus Christ, who sustained our fathers through centuries of trial, to save the Eighth Amendment of the Irish Constitution and protect all unborn children on the island of Ireland. The novena starts on Wed 16th May ’18 – with daily mass in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Holy Hour, Rosary and the Novena prayer to the Sacred Heart with prayers of intercession to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and St. Padre Pio and fasting on bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Jesus gave permission to St. Margaret Mary to rest on His most Sacred Heart while revealing many messages to her for salvation of humanity including The Nine First Fridays Devotion and a message for the King of France, King Louis X1V. St. Padre Pio bore the heart wound from August 1918 as well as the wounds of Christ in his hands and feet. Of the novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Pio said, “when we make this novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus it will be irresistible and Jesus will grant us the grace that we ask of Him”. The grace we ask is to protect the Eighth Amendment of the Irish Constitution and all unborn children in Ireland. (NB: 25th May – date St. Margaret Mary entered religious life and St. Pio’s birthday). The novena will include masses in 11 churches across the four provinces of Ireland (see poster), commencing in St. Patrick’s Church, Downpatrick, the parish where our three patron saints, St. Patrick, St. Brigid and St. Colmcille rest.

Our Lord said to St. Margaret Mary, “Announce it, and let it be announced to the whole world, that I set neither limit nor measure to my gifts of grace, for those who seek them in my Heart”. O Sacred Heart of Jesus we place all our trust in You. Please consider starting the novena on Wed 16th May from where you are and coming to one of the masses advertised. If your family, parish, school or prayer group wishes to join the novena, and would like mass booklets or novena cards, please email info@anteaghlachnaofa.ie, or contact one of the numbers on the poster. Posters, mass booklet and prayer cards may also be downloaded at the following links. Join us and help renew this beautiful devotion to The Sacred Heart of Jesus, cherished by the Irish for generations. It is time to relight the Sacred Heart lamps across our nation and may Ireland once again be a light to the world.

Year of Mercy

The Jubilee Year of MercyThe Jubilee Year of Mercy:
8th December 2015 – 20 November 2016

This year, during 24 Hours for the Lord in Rome, Pope Francis announced an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy for the Church.
“The year has at its centre the Mercy of God. It will be a Holy Year of Mercy. We want to live in the light of the word of the Lord: “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful” (cf. Lk 6:36). And this especially applies to confessors! So much mercy!

This Holy Year will commence on the next Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and will conclude on Sunday, 20 November 2016, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe and living face of the Father's mercy. I entrust the organization of this Jubilee to the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, in order that it may come to life as a new step on the Church’s journey in her mission to bring the Gospel of mercy to each person”. Pope Francis

Every day during the year of mercy we can receive a plenary indulgence for ourselves or for a holy soul in purgatory. This is an amazing grace for the catholic church.

A plenary indulgence, cancels all temporal punishment for sin, in purgatory.
Please encourage your family and friends to embrace the beautiful gift of the Jubilee Indulgence.
